Shape Block

Sometimes I forget to blog about the simple fun learning things we do each day. This morning Sweet Pea and I sat down together while Cutie Pie played with his trains, and we sorted shapes with the shape ball. Sweet Pea is really learning his shapes and I’m so excited. I’m not sure if I’m excited by the fact that he seems to know a circle and a triangle, or if it’s because I hear him say some of the words on his own without my saying them first!

When we play with the shape sorter I try to see how much he remembers, as well as just letting him play. We usually start off with him trying to put the shapes in and I say what the shape is. The longer he is interested the more I ask him to do – What shape is that? Can you find the circle on the floor? Can you find the triangle on the ball? I start out with one shape and move on to see how many he remembers. He finds it fun, clapping after he gets his shapes in. He’s starting to use his muscle and try to open the ball himself, now, too!

Sometimes I feel I don’t have the time to just sit with him and play one on on as Cutie Pie often desires my time when this happens, and Sweet Pea then gets interested in whatever Cutie Pie was doing and the morning goes by. I feel badly because I know I had this time with Cutie Pie when he was an only child and wonder how this will effect Sweet Pea, but can’t wonder for long because I’m pulled back to reality!
