Chickens

Nana and Papa’s neighbor has chickens. They are great for eggs, but they also provide much entertainment for our boys and their cousins. We had a picnic at Nana’s for Memorial Day and to celebrate Hubby’s birthday yesterday and saw several chickens wandering through the yard at various points during the day. This was only unsettling to Rocky, the dog.

Upon returning home, Cutie Pie was very excited to tell me that he and his older cousin, played pretend “Cockadoodledoo”, which is what they say to make ‘bad guys’ go away. They also played many versions of “Chicken” this and “Chicken” that, in which they made different noises or ran to certain points in the yard to make the chickens ‘go away’ to their homes. I’m not sure what all this entailed, but I did see them playing hide-and-seek in the yard at the front of the house, which is closest to the chickens. Cutie Pie certainly did have a good time telling me the names of the ‘games’ he and his cousin played!

I’m very thankful Cutie Pie has cousins to play with like this, in innocent, creative ways!

I’m also very thankful for the men and women who have gone before us, making us who we are today. Be it a family member who has passed on, someone fighting in a war so we can know freedom, or someone special to us for another reason, I’m so glad we have the opportunity to remember them by spending time with those still physically close to us.

Now Go Play at We Play!

Any opportunity to get the family together is a good one. I've just gotten back from a weekend away so our kids could spend time with their cousins who live 10 hours away. Something we need to do more often. The drive is quickly forgotten but the weekend and quality family time will be long remembered.

This story reminds me of my cousin. I grew up on a farm and Eric and his mom stayed with us for a couple of months and he used to chase the chickens. The rooster hated him and would chase Eric and start pecking at his feet and legs (this was a BIG yellow rooster).

Thanks! I'm following you from bassgiraffe's linky. Would love a visit when you have a moment.
