Mama’s Last Week in Review

We took a break from the regular routine this past week and didn’t really have any letters or Bible Story. Cutie Pie has asked all week for them, so I think this coming week we’ll start again with letter A and number one!

A while back I blogged about checking out preschools in case Cutie Pie didn’t get selected for Universal Pre-Kindergarten. We just found out last week that he will be going to Pre-K in the fall! While it is exciting for him, I have mixed feelings (although I admit I’m excited for him too!)

When we were looking at preschools, we knew he’d be going three days a week, either in the morning or the afternoon. It seemed like a lot, but yet, it seemed just right. I knew in my mind it would give me much-needed alone time with Sweet Pea, who, with Cutie Pie’s separation anxiety, hasn’t gotten a lot of individualized attention in the last few months. I also knew it would be good for Cutie Pie to have that socialization and experience listening to someone else in authority. He tends to thrive on interaction with other kiddos and in a way I have felt a little selfish keeping him home with me this past year knowing he desired that, although I have tried to offer that to him through various activities with MOMs Club, story times and other ‘classes’ we signed up for and attended.

Now that it is reality that Cutie Pie will be going to pre-kindergarten every morning from 8:30 to 11, I’m almost sad! I think in my mind if he were going to Kindergarten at a school it would all seem fine…I guess I’m just not ready for my first child to go to ‘school’! I know he’s completely ready for it and he needs it. It was once again so clear to me this Sunday in Sunday School. At home he doesn’t like to cut and paste, but when presented with the opportunity by someone other than Hubby or I he can’t wait to complete the task! His Sunday School project came out great! I don’t know if his coordination is just getting better, if he was encouraged by creating as part of a group, or what! Little things like this remind me he’s ready and needing a change in learning environment, which is what I already know in my head but don’t necessarily want to acknowledge out loud. (Could it possibly for my own selfish reason of knowing if he’s growing up, that means I’m growing older?!)

I’m very excited to see how he continues to change and what he will learn in this new setting come fall! I’m also anxiously awaiting spending so much time with Sweet Pea without his older brother’s interaction as I’m sure he will blossom in his own right without Cutie Pie directing a lot of his play!

Great post, Tricia. Letting go is difficult! Lori allowed SMQ to be at grandma Quails for 3 hours on Saturday and she was experiencing some anxiety! Yes, Cutie Pie is growing up way to fast. He truly is a cutie pie!
