Learning through baking

There is little we like more than making something from scratch for breakfast on Sunday mornings. Cutie Pie is an avid helper most Sundays, but Sweet Pea joined in this time! Hubby chose to make pancakes this particular day and I couldn’t resist getting some pics of my boys helping my guy!
After the dry ingredients were measured and Cutie Pie had dumped them into the bowl one by one, all  with a little help from Hubby, each boy took a turn mixing before adding the wet ingredients. They were great at taking turns and both concentrated heavily, when it was their turn, to keep everything in the bowl. Here you can see Sweet Pea seeing how this mixing thing is done.

After the wet ingredients were measured and poured in it was Sweet Pea’s turn to give mixing a try.
(Of course, neither boy is allowed near the griddle without Hubby’s protection. And I’m always right there if both boys are in the kitchen, so this was where the pics stop.) The pancakes were delicious, which I suppose proves that Cutie Pie and Hubby did a great job measuring the ingredients, both boys mixed well, and there was plenty of butter and syrup on them!
I love letting my boys learn hands-on, although it does take a lot of patience and a careful eye, as well as creativity to keep the uninvolved child occupied sometimes! There is so much math and logic involved in cooking and baking, let alone the whole science of it all!

That's great! My kids love to cook and bake too. My oldest daughter practices her fractions that way!
