A while back Cutie Pie was sick with the stomach bug and Hubby was teaching private lessons at school. I had to come up with some creative ways to keep Sweet Pea occupied and happy while stuck in the house on an absolutely beautiful day so that I could keep an eye on Cutie Pie who was awake ‘reading’ in another room.
One thing in my arsenal of diversions and distractions for any time is a bottle of bubbles. We happened upon Gymboree’s bubble oodles wand at a party where the kids absolutely had a blast, so we had to get our own! The bubbles are perfect for indoor emergencies like this! They are tiny, about dime size, and last a really long time. Actually, sometimes we find them floating around or sitting on the floor hours later! (Although, be careful, they make the floor very slippery. Oh, and please excuse the mess in the background of this pic!)
Sweet Pea was very antsy by the time I pulled the bubbles out and boy, did he go crazy! Normally I wouldn’t blow bubbles in the house because they get all over everything, but it was so worth it this particular day. Squeals. Laughter. Smiles. Occupied 18 month old child for almost an hour! I also was able to mop the floor during nap time without using soap – PERFECT!

I didn't notice the mess until you mentioned it!
Bubbles are a huge hit here too, and are frequently pulled out. We have regular bubbles, smelly bubbles, big bubbles and a bubble machine that can give Mumma a rest and make less mess than Princesses!
We love bubbles – it was Heidi's first word, she very much loves bubbles 🙂
They are a great birthday party activity too 🙂
