Sweet Pea and I had some one on one time while Cutie Pie was taking a late nap so I got out some items to match colors! The boys have this neat game that has plastic big screws in several colors and Sweet Pea was carrying a couple around. The red, blue and yellow happen to match some very small, soft ingredient cups I have almost exactly, so I got them out.
I showed him how the cups and screws matched in color, and then set a screw in the matching cup while telling him the name of the color. He immediately sat down and started picking up screws and setting them in the appropriate colored cup and when he had matched them all, dumped them out and started again. When I put one in the incorrect cup he pushed my hand away and said ‘No’ and put it where it belonged.
After Sweet Pea matched and sorted for a few minutes and started telling me one or two of the colors (and before he lost interest) I pulled some Leap Frog Alphabet letters off the refrigerator and matched those to the cups. Sweet Pea had renewed interest and started matching the letters to the cups, the screws to the letters and stayed there until Cutie Pie woke up!
I love having one on one time with Sweet Pea. He’s learning so much just by observing and playing with his brother, but it’s great to see him learning on his own!
