Trip to the Zoo!

We were finally able to get together with our neighbor, Aunt J, and her grandsons for some playtime and we decided to go to the zoo! Usually it is just me and the boys, so it was a nice change to have an adult to talk with!

All 4 boys had a great time together. It may be because they are relatively close in age – 18 mos, two 3 1/2 yr olds who are 3 weeks apart in age, and a 5 yr old, or maybe because they live around the corner from us (and their grandmother) but we never get to see them except when they are taking walks! Sweet Pea, the 18 mo old, absolutely loved following the older boys around, climbing on the playground like them, pointing to the animals like them, and just watching their every move so he could be just like them. Cutie Pie loved having boys that weren’t his little brother around, plus he just loves playing with these guys and it had been way too long since they had played, so he was just excited to be around them!

Together we traipsed past the orangutans, lemurs, meerkat, rhinoceros, eagle, white wolf, tiger, sea lions and baboons to get to the elephants, Cutie Pie’s favorite animal at the zoo, closely followed by the rhinoceros (unless they happen to snort, then he doesn’t like them that day). I have to admit I was a little surprised the boys looked at the animals as much as they did! They were really paying attention to them, too, asking questions about what they were doing, if they get hot in their fur, why the sea lions just swim in circles…then we traipsed back and had an onslaught of even more questions!

And it was so much fun catching up with my neighbor, who raised 4 children, has 7 grandchildren and who shares my faith in the Lord which made us quick friends when we moved in across the street from her!! It is so awesome having someone to turn to for answers to tough questions and inspiration and encouragement during the tough days! I wish I could take advantage of her knowledge and insight so much more often than I do!
