Walk like an elephant

There have been a lot of garage sales around here lately now that the weather is nice. About two weeks ago I picked up a few videos at one and they’ve been a huge hit here. One in particular is a favorite. It’s called Growing Up Wild, amazing baby animals, by Time Life. There are several episodes on it but two are repeatedly asked for: Tons of Fun and Crazy Croakers.

Tons of Fun is all about giant babies: hippos, elephants and rhinos. Cutie Pie always walks around the house for a long time on all fours after watching this one pretending he’s an elephant. Today after watching it he started acting like an elephant and started telling me all he was doing in detail, including scraping the ground with his tusks to get to water, slurping food into his mouth with his trunk, eating rice and leaves…he’s learned quite a bit from watching this!

Crazy Croakers is about frogs and toads and salamanders. Cutie Pie has a hard time hopping like a frog, but he can tell you all about how frogs use their tongues to catch flies, and how some use their eye muscles to help swallow their food. He likes to pretend he’s a strawberry frog wrestling with me over territory and knocks me over, climbs onto my tummy and wraps his legs around me like they do to other frogs in the video. He can tell you all about how some toads live in water and how a tadpole grows. I’m amazed! I’ve got to watch these again with him because I didn’t gather all this information when I first watched it!

I don’t like to sit my kiddos in front of the TV, but there are times when I do to remain sane. When I do I try to put in an educational video, one with good morals, or chose an educational show if it’s the right time and one is on PBS. I don’t hesitate to pop this one in when I really need to. Both my kids love it and Cutie Pie has obviously learned through watching it!

As stated at the beginning of this post, this was a video I found at a garage sale. I am not promoting, advertising for or reviewing this item.
