Sun. Warmth. Ice cream. Italian ice. Treats like the old days with Dad. But this time I’m driving.
Turning left. Up the hill. Around the corner.
Walking into a familiar building. Familiar faces. Gramma was here years ago. This time we’re here for another purpose.
Dad’s rehab.
Nurses help him into the wheelchair. I obediently follow.
Sunny entryway. Comfortable chairs to wait. Pretty pictures on the walls.
Laughter.
Smiles.
Fresh air.
Bright elevators. Slow ride.
Sign: Be safe. Be strong. Don’t fall. (before breakfast)
Giggle.
Bright hallway. Big room. Comfy chair.
Friendly nurses. Prompt answers. Helpful.
Easy conversation.
Loving goodbyes. Next time at your house.
Car ride home. Louder music. Singing all the way.
My thoughts bringing my dad to the rehabilitation facility after his bout with pneumonia.
