We’ve been working a lot with Cutie Pie on his manners and things like counting. I think I might have mentioned before how Sweet Pea is a little tape recorder lately and can count to 10. Well, we think he’s caught on to manners too! Lately we’ve been finding that if we tell Sweet Pea to do something, he will not do it. No way no how. It could be “Sweet Pea sit down in that chair” as he’s about to tip backwards and we’re across the room and can’t catch him if we wanted to or “Sweet Pea it’s time to clean up. Come on in here!”
Now, if we ask, Sweet Pea might do what we request of him. But if we phrase our request in such a way that he will be helping us, whether he is or not, he will do it in a heartbeat! “Sweet Pea, please help us by sitting down in that chair” said calmy and with the word ‘help’ said very clearly, whether his life is in danger or not, he sits right down! “Sweet Pea, please help us clean up” whether we remember to follow it by a specific instruction or not and he jumps right in picking items up and trying to put them where he thinks they belong! Not only will he help, he then seems to love it! “Here Mommy.” “My turn, Mommy!” Who wouldn’t love that?!
My Sweet Pea will be two just a day after Thanksgiving. He is learning so much from his older brother. Sometimes I wish he wouldn’t be such a tape recorder and copycat. Isn’t that always the truth with siblings? I’m so glad that he’s also learning things like manners much more quickly, though, although I wish he’d waited a bit to learn to walk and climb on top of the table!
