I’ve lost track of what week I’m on in this organizing mission of mine! This is a good example of what’s become of my blogging, so it’s good that it was my main focus this past week in the area of organizing.
To begin, I didn’t really have any intention of blogging for as long as I have. It’s like my own little corner of the universe now. Something I’ve come to own that is all mine. Unfortunately I don’t think I’m doing a very good job of making it look very nice lately in more ways than one. (Actually, some strange things have been happening which I’ve been trying to fix, but seem unfixable. But that’s another story.) I’ve also let a few non-blog things slide as well as letting the focus of my blog slip a little. That’s where organizing comes in to play!
I decided it was about time I organized my blogging. There are a ton of tools out there to help with this! So many and in so many areas that I’m not going to attempt to list them all here. Instead I will share with you the topics I ended up searching on:
- How to….revamp a blog, create media icon buttons, create an editorial calendar, create drop down menus, move your blog forward.
- Blogging basics…what to include in a good post, basic html.
- Blog templates…free, premade, media icons included.
Have you ever searched on these topics? There is a wealth of information out there, and it’s sometimes hard to decipher old from new, good from bad, accurate from inaccurate.
The resulting organization? Well, I’m still in process! I have kept notes using my M.O.M. method’s Next Actions item list (yes, I’m an affiliate, but I truly love this organizing system!), some of which include:
- Start an editorial calendar. List the topics by post according to date. Include some SEO and links in there. Determine how to do this and keep it neat and easy to read.
- Start a test blog. Test out ideas to revamp the blog’s look (and hopefully get rid of the occasional small font, my sidebar moving to the bottom of my page.)
- Add media icons to help others connect with me and me connect with others more easily.
Now, what organizing do you do with your blogging? Do you schedule posts in advance by topic? Do you follow a predictable blogging pattern? How do you balance your blog life with your family life? I’d love to hear! (And any suggestions on making my blog better, too!)
