A while back I was given a dinosaur birthday party supply pack/kit and it’s awesome! The only thing is, the kiddos found it last month (June) and their birthdays aren’t until winter! I decided to let them play with some of the items since it would be such a long time until they could use them for their birthdays and since I would probably forget about them anyway!
One of the items in the pack was dinosaurs on a stick. You know, the kind that has a little handle on one end that you squeeze and it makes the mouth open and shut. At first they were a little tight, but after opening and shutting their mouths a few times the kids could work them on their own. The kids had a ball making them ‘talk’ and trying different things with them, but when they started making them try to eat each other in a rather rough manner I decided they needed a little more direction in their playing.
Out came the pom poms and a few bowls. They had fun seeing if they could pick up the pom poms from the floor and put them in the bowls, then they tried picking up the pom poms in the bowls and moving them to other bowls. Sweet Pea stuck with this for a while, but Cutie Pie was challenged when I asked him to have the dinosaur sort them by color. We also counted the pom poms the dinosaurs moved into a pile and told Sweet Pea the colors of the pom poms in each dinosaurs mouth. The boys had a ball doing this and we’ve played with these several times since. They were the perfect toys to bring out on a rainy day and saved my sanity on more than one occasion! I’m wondering what else the dinosaurs can ‘eat’?
Head on over to Childhood 101 to see how other kiddos are playing!

Sounds like lots of good fun, and that lots of challenges could be set and it could become a great party game (if they are still working by the time the parties come around!)
We got a lion and dino from the Melbourne Museum similar to those, my girls also had a grand time making them talk. From memory Heidi's lion like traffic lights but only when they were red – because then everyone was standing still making it easier for him to eat them 😀
What a fantastic way to focus their play to be somewhat more…'productive!' 🙂 I imagine the dinosaurs may like the challenge of small rocks or seedpods/nuts or even a special treat of Skittles!
