Preparing for Pre-K

Cutie Pie has been acting a little ‘off’ the past several mornings. After a few questions, Hubby was able to decipher that Cutie Pie wasn’t ready for his Daddy to return to work teaching. (He’s been gearing up for the first day of school this Wednesday by going into his classrooms a few days last week and today is his first full day gone.) Seems Cutie Pie’s been enjoying seeing Hubby in the mornings even though it appears he ignores him in favor of his Mighty Machines videos!

Again yesterday morning Cutie Pie seemed a little upset. Again after several questions we realized every morning that he thinks he is going to school that day and is apprehensive at being away from home. We tried to give him lots of reassurance and talked about some things that might make him feel less scared about going to Pre-k, even though he’s very excited about it.

I plan on sewing a little heart to tuck into his pockets the first day, and sending them along with him for however long he might need them. This way he will have something to hold when (if) he feels lonely or homesick at school. I also plan on attaching a family photo to his backpack for him to sneak a peak at if he feels he needs to ‘see’ us. I hope these are a comfort to him if he does need them, but I honestly think once he let’s go of his tight little grip of my hand he’ll forget his anxiety and simply have fun! He is so ready to be with kids his age each day! (I saw these ideas somewhere out there on a blog or two in the past several days, but now can’t find them. If they are your ideas, or you know the link, please let me know so I can update this post!)

My little guy…off to school already! As I type this he’s got his alien hat on and is getting his guitar out getting ready to give me a concert! Growing up so quickly!
