I think I’ve written before about Cutie Pie being left-handed and that it’s normal around here. Lately, however, we’ve noticed little things going on that have made us pause a few times. One of those things is his ability to cut paper.
To a Kindergartener it is a big deal if you can’t cut as well as others around you. Cutie Pie even mentioned another child saying “I can cut better than you” in one of those tones you don’t want your child to be on the receiving end of – especially in Kindergarten where simple words can make or break them emotionally. It took several days for us to discover this simple statement is what had Cutie Pie in a funk.
Hubby and I each searched for left-handed scissors when back to school shopping without any luck. This little episode sent us to the internet searching as well. We have since found Fiskars left-handed scissors and what a turn-around! Cutie Pie can suddenly cut like a pro! Crazy his ability now, and what it did to his self-esteem!
My question: Why can we find so much information for teaching cutting and writing in general but when it comes to finding information in these same areas for helping left-handed children it’s just not there, or it comes at a price?

My daughter is a lefty! We can't find lefty scissors for bigger children!
Love the photo! Guess we were blessed our schools kept a supply of lefty scissors, maybe the school could offer assistance?
