A little while ago we had some extra wood in our garage from Hubby repairing the deck. Cutie Pie and Sweet Pea were intrigued by it and played outside balancing on it. When the cold and rainy weather set in and we couldn’t get outside as much, I decided to bring a 2 x 4 in while they were playing with their cars and see what happened. It was such fun!
First the kiddos set it on the couch and the toy box making a simple slightly sloping bridge. We talked about whether the cars moved on their own and how quickly. We also talked about why the cars fell off the edge when pushed a little.
Then Cutie Pie had a great idea and put one end of the 2×4 on the back of the couch and let the cars roll down it on their own power. The kiddos were great experimenting with which cars went faster, which went in a straight line down the board, and which flew the farthest. Then they decided to set the track on the board to see if the cars would stop falling off the track and they did, so they made the track run all the way to the floor. I was so impressed they came up with these ideas all on their own and that they were working so well together!
The kiddos then tried to see which cars would jump the farthest and that’s when I put the pillow by the train table! These cars were flying!
When all the experimenting was done, they also decided to run their cars along the board while it was flat on the floor. That’s when Sweet Pea decided to try to balance again! He did so much better, and was so much more confident than just a few months ago!
My kiddos love experimenting. Most of the time we just do simple experiments at the table. It was fun to do something bigger for a change!

it is amazing- always the simple things that bring per joy. I love making everyday playtime a fun learning experience. I try doing the same with both mine.
Thank you for the blog award. I will get on it right after Christmas. Entertaining the family again this year and it seems a little more challenging to get everything in order with Jackson being 1 and Addison 3. They are always up to something…

Oh, I’ve been there! Some things about the kiddos being 2 yrs apart is great, others…not so much! Enjoy your family!
