We Play Childhood 101 time!
The other day both boys seemed to have a bit of a cold, so I wasn’t really excited about taking them outside to play in the 90 degree weather, although it probably would have baked the colds right out of them! Instead, we did something Cutie Pie had seen in the Dinomania: Things to do with Dinosaurs book I blogged about previously.
Cutie Pie was interested in making a diorama for his dinosaurs. We didn’t do anything too elaborate, I knew the attention span wouldn’t be long enough, and it would probably be something he wouldn’t play with for very long, so I opted for construction paper, scissors, glue and imagination. I left the imagination mostly up to Cutie Pie. He told me he wanted a blue sky, green bushes, a pond, some grass, and that he wanted it big. This is what we ended up with…
Pretty elementary, I know, but for a half hour’s worth of work, a 3 yr olds direction and a mom who is limited artistically, I think it turned out pretty well! Both boys played with this off and on most of the morning, but true to form, they haven’t returned to it since! I do think Cutie Pie enjoyed making it with me, and maybe some day soon he’ll have fun with it again!

I think it looks great. and maybe if you pack it up, then set it up again with some different animals/figurines (makes me think of horses and cowboys for some reason!) they may want to play with it again. I know that getting Princess to return to anything is a real challenge. Unless it involves toilet rolls ….
I love this activity and agree with amandab that you could repurpose this scene. I can imagine hand puppets over the sky for some reason.
That is very cool. So easy to do and I think my slightly older girls would enjoy it for a few hours.
I think you did a fantastic job, simple is great because it can so easily become inspiration for many different types of play. I am sure you are more creative than you let on 🙂
