Flashlight Play

The other morning it was rather dark and miserable. I had set two flashlights on the counter to remind myself to get new batteries for them as the kiddos had used them so much their light wasn’t as bright. When I saw them it made perfect sense to let the kiddos play with them again, I mean, I had to get new batteries anyway!

This particular morning we played flashlight ‘tag’ as we call it here, but really it is just the kiddos shining the flashlights on the ceiling and every once in a while Sweet Pea trying to make his light touch Cutie Pie’s while they are both craning their necks to watch the spots of light move. However, Cutie Pie had this great idea to be a lighthouse like one he sees occasionally on a Thomas the Tank Engine video. He started turning in circles letting his flashlight shine on everything around him. Sounds like a lot of fun, right?!

Unfortunately, Cutie Pie the Lighthouse spun a little too quickly, ignoring my ‘lifeguard’ request for him to slow down, and he fell. He is now sporting a black eye from where his head and the flashlight met quite hard. He still says he had a lot of fun being a lighthouse and proudly tells people when they ask what happened! Sweet Pea was very content watching his flashlight on the ceiling and sat down on the kitchen step, on the step down into the mud room. Unfortunately, he craned his neck a little too far back and fell backwards whacking his head really hard on the hard floor.

Needless to say, endless crying was the result of flashlight play. Sometimes lots of fun turns painful for my little guys….
