If you give…

Hubby’s birthday is this weekend, so to get ready for it we read a book and made birthday party hats! All week Cutie Pie has really wanted to decorate the house, make the cake and do hats. We ran out of time to do everything but we had fun with the hats! At least his birthday isn’t today!

We started the morning out reading “If you give a Pig a Party” by Laura Numeroff, and talked about the balloons and party hats and decorations. Sweet Pea pointed out all of the balloons in the book for us. Cutie Pie told us their colors and talked about making lots of hats so we could stack them like on the first page of the book.
We ended up making 4 birthday hats. Well I made 3, Cutie Pie made 1 and that’s what took a long time! (I used an idea I saw on the Martha Stewart web site, but couldn’t make them that pretty with boys…) For each hat I cut two plate-size circles from some thick paper, helped him glue them together overlapping them a little (to be glued into a cone shape as the last step), then he colored them with crayons and painted them with puffy paint. We were going to use glue to add pompoms and glitter, but we didn’t get that far. Cutie Pie had too much fun with the puffy paint! We actually still have to paste them together into a cone shape and put the crepe paper tassels on the top, but we’re close!
We’re very excited to celebrate Hubby’s birthday! Happy Birthday Honey! I love you!
Note: I tried to take a photo of the finished hats, but couldn’t get one that did them justice. If a birthday photo comes out I will try to remember to post it. The hat idea on MS’s site is really cute!
